The Common Space - Studies in Theatre and Performance History
Synopsis
The studies collected in this volume, focusing on theatre history and performance studies, were originally presented to mark the bicentenary of the inauguration of Cluj’s permanent theatre building. The anniversary coincided with a period profoundly shaped by the restrictions imposed during the COVID 19 pandemic, which limited physical mobility and in person gatherings. Nevertheless, the topics addressed in this volume extend well beyond the study of a single institution, namely, the stone theatre inaugurated in the spring of 1821 on Farkas Street (now Kogălniceanu Street), intended to serve as a dedicated venue for Hungarian-language theatre in Cluj.
