Regional Development and Innovation in the Context of the Romanian Start-up Sector

Within the pages of this book, we have proffered a plethora of definitional constructs for the term “start-up.” Among these, one noteworthy definition, provided by the North-East Regional Development Agency, posits that a start-up may be encapsulated as “an independent organization (legal entity or not, depending on development phase), which has (or is in search of) a scalable business model, the capacity to disrupt and innovate, is developed under conditions of uncertainty, and requires funding for high and rapid growth. Startups are considered a specialist subset of SMEs” (RoStartup, 2021).
